The Magic of Literature assembly takes that idea and brings it onto the stage. Throughout the reading assembly, books and stories become the inspiration for interactive magic. Students don’t just hear Brock talk about reading—they watch ideas from literature unfold in front of them, and sometimes become part of the story themselves.
A student becomes a fairy princess. A drawing comes to life. Charlotte reveals an impossible message in her web. Pieces of fabric become a finished quilt. And before the assembly is over, even a teacher may discover what it feels like to follow in the footsteps of Harry Houdini.

The books aren’t simply mentioned between tricks. Selected stories provide the ideas, characters, and situations that inspire what students see happen onstage.
A student volunteer steps into the story as the fairy princess and helps Brock attempt something that seems impossible.
Together, they take an ordinary stuffed bunny rabbit and—with a little help from the magic of the story—turn it into a real live rabbit.
For students, it’s a moment when the imagination of a book suddenly feels very real.

Of course, magical quilting requires the proper equipment. The magic wands keep getting bigger and bigger until they’re filling the stage—while the separate pieces of material somehow come together to form a finished patchwork quilt.

The Magic of Literature is an approximately 40-minute elementary school reading assembly that combines children’s literature with amazing magic, hilarious comedy, and audience participation. Books and stories provide the inspiration for many of the routines.
The Magic of Literature is designed specifically for kindergarten through 6th grade. When schools schedule separate groups, portions of the program can be adjusted for younger and older elementary students.
The program runs approximately 40 minutes and is designed as a complete school assembly filled with magic, comedy, student participation, and a reading theme throughout the performance.
